UN Plea to Save Afghanistan from Full-Blown Humanitarian Crisis

UN agencies have asked for a record USD 4.4 billion in aid for Afghanistan to avert a full-blown humanitarian crisis. The agencies OCHA, UNHCR, and their non-governmental organization partners launched their 2022 Humanitarian Response Plans to provide relief for Afghanistan and the region on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. 

OCHA’s relief plan accounts for those affected by the severe climate-induced problems (such as the harsh winter season and one of the worst recorded droughts in the country’s history) and incorporates the 700,000 internally displaced Afghans. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths stated that this is the “largest-ever appeal for a single country for humanitarian aid. ”
