As we prepare to welcome the New Year, allow me to share with you ICTJ Year in Review, a special edition combining our World Report, ICTJ Forum and a selection of stories highlighting ICTJ’s contribution to transitional justice in 2012.
A multimedia gallery presents highlights of ICTJ’s work in 2012, spanning stories from Colombia to Canada to Cote d’Ivoire, where ICTJ has provided expert assistance to leaders, civil society activists, and policy makers whose work is shaping the future of entire countries confronting legacies of massive human rights abuses. Our research has continued to advance the scholarship of the field, and we’ve worked to support those acting for justice in countries where atrocities were committed.
In the ICTJ Forum, ICTJ President David Tolbert, reflects on some of the most significant events of the past year in the field of transitional justice. The conversation charts ICTJ’s engagement driven by the principles of justice, truth and dignity for all, best captured in Tolbert’s words: “We’re critical of the idea that justice is given to one person and not the next because of political circumstances. That’s something we resist. And that’s something we will always fight against.”
And we hope all practitioners will find our special edition of the World Report of particular interest, as it provides a unique overview of the most significant developments in transitional justice in 2012.
