Iraq war crimes trial finally set to begin

The last U.S. troops left Iraq in mid-December. Violence continues in the fertile crescent once known as Mesopotamia, but for American forces their nearly nine-year-long war there is over. The court martial in one of the most notorious Iraq war crimes cases, however, is just beginning.

Six years after a group of Camp Pendleton Marines killed 24 unarmed men, women and children after a deadly roadside bomb attack in Haditha, the former squad leader at the center of the case is standing trial.
