The issue of German war reparations owed to Greece was raised in the Greek parliament where the deputy finance minister said "Greece has never relinquished its claims." A special team has estimated Germany still owes Greece €7.5 billion.
Greek Deputy Finance Minister Christos Staikouras addressed parliament over the issue of outstanding German war reparations to Greece, estimating the sum of €7.5 billion is owed. The figure was reached by a special team of experts that are conducting an on-going investigation and searching relevant archives.
To Vima reported Staikouras told parliament "Greece has never relinquished its claims" as he stressed the country had the right to pursue its claim.
Previously figures cited by Greek MP's indicated the reparation debt to stand at €70 billion, whilst the National Council for the Claim of German Debts claims Germany owes Greece €162 billion. The outstanding debt includes enforced World War 11 loans and compensation to the victims of German atrocities.
