Memory, Memorials and MuseumsThe Memorials, Monuments and Museums Database
The Memorial, Monuments and Museum (MMM) Database is a collection of different records, documents and data that provides essential and valuable information on more than 30 public memorials, monuments and museums around the world. Common to them all is their relevance to Transitional Justice issues. The aim of the MMM database is for interested people such as students, academics, journalists, human rights practitioners and designers, to have easy access to information about the different sites from which comparative evaluation can be made, past experience examined, and lessons learned and implemented in future projects and studies. The MMM database is classified by country. Within each country's entry, the database is organized according to specific memorials. The ICTJ MMM program highly encourages interested people to contact program staff when seeking additional information on listed sites. The database will direct interested parties to academic and news articles, relevant bibliographies, and decisive primary documents such as mandates, legislation, conference reports, and governmental documents. Both objective sources and critical reviews of the architects and designers of the different sites will be available to attract and provide context to a wider constituency of artists, builders and cultural historians. In the upcoming year the MMM program will expand the MMM database, and make it fully accessible online on the ICTJ website. For more information contact the Director of PCSU, Louis Bickford.
